1995

February 26th: Leeson's disastrous trades caused the bank to collapse with $1.4 billion in debts. It was the largest financial loss ever experienced by a single institution. Some people with accounts at the bank lost a good chunk of their life savings. Baring was eventually sold to the Dutch firm ING for $1.60 and the assumptions of Baring's massive debts.

February 26th: Portsmouth, with debts of about £60m, have become the first Premier League club to enter administration.

The club will be docked nine points as a result and face almost certain relegation to the Championship.

Pompey, who have had four owners this season, were due to face a winding-up order on 1 March but decided to go into administration in a bid to survive.

1967

February 25th: A stand has been named in memory of a footballer who was killed by lightning whilst playing 50 years ago.

Defender Tony Allden, 23, died as he played for West Midlands club Highgate United in an FA Amateur Cup quarter-final.

The renamed Tony Allden Stand at Highgate was unveiled at 14:00 GMT.

On 25 February 1967, opponents Enfield were wining 1-0 when the game was stopped in the 28th minute when recently married Mr Allden was struck.

February 24th: Deep snow and freezing temperatures continue across Britain leaving many parts of the country cut off from essential supplies.

More than 70 roads in Britain are blocked by snow, according to the Automobile Association and hundreds of vehicles have been abandoned in snowdrifts as high as 30ft (9m).

February 24th: Duran took the best that Barkley came with, even making him miss quite a few shots. Over time, the haul Barkley had to endure became a long one, with he himself wearing down.

While the fight was still in many ways up in the air, in the eleventh round Duran made a separation, landing a combination that dropped the defending champion for a six count.
