1836

March 6th: The first to know what happened at the Alamo on March 6, 1836, were the Mexican soldiers, survivors, and townspeople who participated in or witnessed the battle. That afternoon, General Antonio López de Santa Annawrote the first official report of the battle and forwarded it to Mexico City. He praised his troops’ actions in winning this hard-fought victory and said the nation owed them its gratitude.

March 6th: The Nation of Islam required all its members to change any names they’d inherited from slave-owners who had possessed their ancestors. For Ali, the name Cassius Clay was a name associated with the slave trade, even though he was named after his father who was named after Cassius Marcellus Clay, a 19th century abolitionist.

First, Ali changed his name to Cassius X, using the system that many members of the Nation of Islam had adopted, including its most famous member Malcolm X. He then went further and officially changed his name to Muhammad Ali.

March 5th: The speech's most famous phrase, the "iron curtain", entered the political lexicon as he cautioned how the "ancient capitals and states of central and eastern Europe" were falling under tightening Soviet influence. These Soviet satellite states were becoming "police governments", he warned, with communist parties attempting to "obtain totalitarian control".

March 4th: They are especially remembered for their 1966-67 free dance to music from "Zorba the Greek," music which at first was thought to be unskatable. At the national championships, traditionally held in Nottingham, it was an unqualified success, causing Howard Bass to write, "It is indeed no exaggeration to suggest that their new free program was history-making, advancing the whole concept and possibilities of ice dancing."

1996

March 2nd: The air in Delhi on March 2, 1996, must have been thick with anticipation. It was the Wills World Cup, and the stage was set for a compelling encounter between hosts India and the formidable Sri Lankans. While the reference material points to a specific match result where Sri Lanka emerged victorious by six wickets, it's the echoes of that game, particularly the individual brilliance and the dramatic flow, that truly capture the imagination.
